COCKROACH FACTS - Cockroaches have changed little during the 400 million years they have been around!
- All newly emerged cockroaches are white, but within a few hours as their cuticle hardens, their typical coloration appears.
- Cockroaches are capable of carrying many common disease pathogens.
- There are approximately 4,000 living species of cockroaches in the world, and about 70 of them are in the United States.
- Only a few of these inhabit one's home - the more common are the American, Austrailian, Brown, Brownbanded, German, Oriental, Pennsylvania Wood and the Smokybrown Cockroaches.
- The most common found in our service area are American, Brownbanded, Oriental & German Cockroaches.
- Cockroaches will spend about 75% of their time squeezed in to cracks and crevices.
- Domestic species are nocturnal but will be found during daylight when the infestation is very large and their hiding places are already packed with other roaches!
- The American Cockroach is not native to North America at all. It is believed they were introduced via ships from Africa.
